I’m a Florida beach girl, now living in rural North Carolina with my husband, two dogs, infant son, and an assortment of chickens. Hubs is an old-fashioned southern gentleman with a sizable anarchist streak. The dogs are poodles—one’s a crotchety geriatric, the other’s the puppy equivalent of Spinal Tap’s sound system—he goes all the way to eleven! Baby’s considering going pro—he’s already generated some interest in sponsorships. Based on his talents, Pampers and La Leche league seem to be most viable spokesbaby gigs so far…. And the chickens? Well, what can I say—they’re chickens.
I’m all about anything vintage, loud eye shadow, and music: lots of different types, but if it’s British, retro, and semi-obscure, it probably ranks among my favorites. My happy place would definitely be either poolside or on the beach, wearing a bathing suit that makes me look like Jane Russell, with a half-empty mojito in my hand (it’s not that I’m a pessimistic, glass-half-empty person, it’s just that the other half is already inside me).
In the midst of all this plus a full-time job, I write light commercial fiction: romantic comedy, humorous women’s fiction—fun, escapist beach-read stuff. I first started writing seriously in 2008, and joined up with what would eventually become the BadGirlz in 2009. Since then, I’ve gone from “OMG, I wrote a novel, and it’s so awesome!!!” through the slush pile form rejections, to some positive results (contest finals, better requests, nicer rejections that want to see other material), and I’ve learned a ton along the way. I’m really excited to be a part of this blog, and hope to share the ups and downs, as well as lessons learned during my development as a writer.
